Awareness Events

One in five people in Dane County are impacted by mental health conditions. As a way to show support for these people, we participate in several annual mental health awareness events. Participating in one of our events is a great way for you to help increase people’s understanding of mental illness and reduce stigma.

May

Mental Health Month

During Mental Health Month, we host a variety of events to increase public awareness and understanding of mental illness. Sign up for our e-newsletter to stay up-to-date on these events and how to get involved.

July

National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month

In many communities, the challenges of living with mental illness, health coverage, and the stigma of mental illness are increased because of less access to care, cultural stigma and lower quality of care. NAMI Dane County hosts a minority mental health awareness symposium each year in July.

September

Suicide Prevention Awareness Month

September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. During the month of September, NAMI Dane County highlights suicide prevention through education and resources, as well as delivering recovery bags to those struggling with anxiety/depression.

October

Mental Illness Awareness Week

The first full week of October is Mental Illness Awareness Week (MIAW). During this week, NAMI Dane County hosts our annual NAMIWalks event, which is our largest fundraiser that raises awareness of mental illness and reduces stigma.
