If In Crisis

NAMI Dane County does not have a crisis hotline nor do we offer direct services. If you or a loved one is experiencing a psychiatric crisis, please call 911 or refer to the numbers below:

  • Dane County 24-hour Crisis Line at 608-280-2600
  • Suicide Prevention Lifeline at (800) 273-TALK or (800) SUICIDE
  • Dane County Clerk of Courts (regarding the commitment process) at (608) 266-4311

Like any other health crisis, it's important to address a mental health emergency quickly and effectively.  However, information is not always readily available and the search for answers may require more energy and persistence than possible in times of crisis.

This is why we created "Navigating a Mental Health Crisis: A NAMI Resource Guide for Those Experiencing a Mental Health Emergency" (Crisis Guide), which provides important, potentially life-saving information for people experiencing mental health crises and their loved ones. This guide outlines what can contribute to a crisis, warning signs that a crisis is emerging, strategies to help de-escalate a crisis, available resources and so much more.
